EDUCATION: ABOUT THE THERAPIST
Kira Schuschnigg (Weinberger) is a self-employed Equine Sport Therapist in Austria since 2003. She has attended a very practically based Bachelor (BSc Hons) of Equine Science degree at Hartpury College (University of the West of England) for four Years, finishing in June 2003 with a distiction. The subjects she mainly focused on included Therapy, Exercise Physiology and Veterinary Science.
Several placements at various clinics (including one year at Massey University Equine Clinic, New Zealand and two months at the Equine Clinic in Telgte/ Warendorf, Germany) and with Physiotherapists (including Michael Baxter, founder of the International Academy of Equine Sport Therapy) build a very broad practical spectrum with which Kira can work now. The success can be seen on horses of several disciplines, be it dressage, jumping, cross country, thoroughbred racing, trotters and Polohorses.
One matter of importance to the therapist is to work in close relation with veterinary practitioners, so that particularly in acute cases, a diagnosis of the problem is ensured before a treatment is commenced. Future focus of Kira Schuschnigg (Weinberger) will be to support the cooperation between all the parties important in the equine sector (Veterinary practitioners, saddlers, farriers, trainers), since as a Team it is easier to convince horse owners and trainers, that prevention is better than cure.
